What Is A Cleanse – A Brief Overview

Spread the love

I have heard about cleanses for years and have even tried a few. It’s easy to get confused or sidetracked by all the information out there. This is the first article that I will write as I conduct my own research on this subject.

Let me also say that I am not a healthcare professional, this is based solely on some research that I have personally done and thought others might benefit from this as well.

In this article, I am going to just give an overview of what a cleanse is, toxins, how can a cleanse help me, and whether is it safe. There are many articles on the internet that go into greater detail about what I have explained here.

What is a Cleanse?

Like anything, I thought the best place to start is by defining what a cleanse is. According to dictionary.com a cleanse is a verb that simply means:

1. To make clean

2. To remove by or as if by cleaning

3. To become clean.

Cleanse originated in Middle English before 900 as clensen and was basically the equivalent of clean.

To put it simply, a cleanse is just a way to help clean the body of toxins and other pollutants that find their way in. There are different types, a cleanse may be designed to help the entire body and others target specific areas.

How Do We Pollute Our Bodies?

I Like My Burgers Too, But They Clog Up Our Bodies

We put these toxins into our bodies every day. Some from what we eat or drink, and others from the air we breathe. Our food is so full of chemicals, preservatives, and who knows what else goes into it during processing.

Our water is chemically treated and we won’t even go into what is in the air, just take a look at any highway or older factory.

The internet is full of all kinds of scary information if you want to look, but for my purpose, let’s just say these toxins find their way into our bodies however they can.

How can a Cleanse Help Me?

The obvious reason to do a cleanse is to help remove these toxins from our bodies. Most cleanse plans are homeopathic in nature (just a fancy way of saying home remedies).

Many are herbal-based and have been used for hundreds of years. Most of these have been handed down through the generations, I know my grandma had many that were handed down to my mom.

If you are considering a diet or just starting an exercise routine, a cleanse will also help to free up your body’s energies so that it can function more efficiently.

It’s like giving your car a tune-up and an oil change. By removing these toxins, the body is not wasting energy to store them and it’s easier for nutrients to get to our cells. This will make your diet or exercise more effective.

How can I Cleanse My Body?

Drinking plenty of clean purified water is a great way to cleanse the body. It’s usually recommended that we drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. But there is also a risk that if you drink too much, you can also flush much-needed nutrients from the body.

That’s why it’s also recommended for those who are very active to drink a sports drink to replenish the electrolytes that our bodies lose when we are playing sports or exercising.

There are many ways to cleanse your body. Before starting a cleanse, you must decide what you want from it or what you want it to do for you.

There are cleanses that help to detox the entire body and there are ones that are more focused on a single part such as an organ. Others are more designed to remove a specific toxin from the body.

The best way to start is to decide what you want, then research it. Read articles, watch videos, and ask questions. If you’re purchasing a product, here are some questions to consider:

  • Do they have a trial version or a free sample?
  • Do they have a money-back guarantee? For how long and what are the conditions?
  • Are they recommended by medical professionals? And what type?

One thing to keep in mind when doing a cleanse is to follow the directions carefully. For example, if you’re instructed to take one packet or 2 ounces of something a da. Don’t go over that unless given specific instructions from your doctor or in a case of a non-prescribed remedy, the manufacturer of the product.

If you are still not sure, research, and ask questions

Is a Cleanse Safe?

I just want to be clear about one thing before I start this section, if you have any doubts if something is safe, always consult a healthcare professional.

There are many good open-minded professionals that will have your best interests at heart. With all the lawsuits, some doctors are concerned about just writing a prescription anymore.

Sure, that pill may have passed FDA testing, but 10 years down the road it’s found to have caused cancer or birth defects. Besides, how much time does a doctor have available to really do research on pharmaceuticals? Isn’t it just easier to take the sales rep’s word?

It’s always best to do your own research before taking any home remedy or prescription. We must educate ourselves these days since there are just way too many options out there. Who could keep up?

The internet is a great place to research, but you must be careful and check the sources of the information. After all, why do you think a drug manufacturer sponsors research that benefits them?

Don’t get me wrong, there are times when a drug will save your life, but I feel that most of the time we are over-medicated.

How Long Should I Cleanse

How Long Should I Cleanse

Everyone is intrigued by the idea of a cleanse these days; however, it can be tricky to know how long you should cleanse your body.

The answer ultimately depends on your individual goals and what cleanse you are doing.

If you’re looking for quick results and want to get into shape quickly, then a shorter cleanse of about 7 days is recommended.

However, if you are seeking to nourish your body and make more lasting improvements, then a longer cleanse period of up to 30 days can may be what you need.

Keep in mind that while cleanses can have powerful impacts on overall health and well-being, they are not meant to become a habit.

A smart way to go about it is to talk with a professional nutritionist who can help guide you toward the right decision based on your individual needs.

Final Thoughts

In this article, I wanted to go over the basics of a cleanse. I covered what a cleanse is, how pollutants get into our bodies, how a cleanse can help, whether are they safe, and how I can cleanse my body.

Cleansing the body of the toxins that find their way in every day, is important in order to have a happier and healthier life.

I will be writing other articles and welcome responses on my site (www.mycleanseplan.com).

Only together can we learn and grow.
